Tattoo Needles – An Important Part of the Machine

Tattoo Needles – An Important Part of the Machine

Article by A.Noton

There are many items that a tattoo artist needs to continue with their work. Most of the pieces and parts that they will use are disposable, while others will be interchangeable along the way. Among those things is the machine that they use, the brands of ink they choose, and let’s not forget the tattoo needles that they will need to get the job done.

Before an artist even starts to deal with the actual tattoo needles, the machine itself has to be put together. It comes in three main parts. This includes the coil wrap, the grip, and the tips that hold the needles. To keep everything together and running smoothly, rubber bands, rubber rings, and grommets will also be needed.

To even be able to use the machine, there are other items that are needed. There is the power supply and the foot pedal. These come in many varieties to choose from. It really depends on what the artist’s preference is and what the have become comfortable with. The artist will also have to make sure that all of the cords that come with the pedal and the power supply are long enough for their needs.

While disposable, the tattooing needles are a very important part of the machine. They must always, always be sterilized. Because of the risk of infection, many artists opt to buy pre-packaged needles that come in pre-sterilized packages. There are ways to sterilize the needles before use, but this is the safest way to make sure that your customer will have the lowest risk of infection possible.

As the artist gets farther along into their tattooing career, they will most likely have at least two machines set up to be used. One will be designated as a liner machine, and the other will be used as a shader. It is easier for the artist to have different machines setup to do different things so that they will not have to spend the time preparing the machines while tattooing.

A tattoo artist will use a liner machine to do the outline of the tattoo and any lining within the tattoo itself. This machine will usually use smaller needles to achieve the look that the customer wants. Even a single needle can be used, but a three or a five is most likely unless the customer is wanting bigger and bolder lines.

A shading machine will do just that, shading within the outlines of the tattoo. With shading, the size of the needle will usually be larger than the size used for the outlining. It is up to the artist’s preference whether he or she will use a flat or round setup of needles.

Professional tattoo needles will come labeled as what they are intended for. RS and RL for round shader and round liner. A round setup is where the needles are grouped together to form a cylindrical shape. FS and FL are also used for flat shader and flat liner. With a flat setup, the needles are lined up in a single row, or they also come in multiple rows stacked on top of one another. Each type of setup varies in size starting from a single needle up to nine or even more.

No matter what level of tattooing the artist is at, tattoo needles are an important part of the job. To keep the customer safe and the risk of infection low, then they should always be sterilized and used only once. They come in many sizes and varieties, so it will always depend on what the artist is comfortable with using for each tattoo that they do.

Classification of Tattoo Machine Supplies

Classification of Tattoo Machine Supplies

Article by Getbetterlife

Tattoo machine supplies can be found here and there in your local area and online tattoo stores. For professional tattoo artists, they have no problems in choosing a suitable machine for their working and they can even built a handmade machine to meet their special needs, but things may be a bit difficult for tattoo starters. To get a proper one, you should know as much as possible. The first thing to know is the classification.

According to the functions, they fall into two big categories: liner machines and shader machines. A liner tattoo machine works with tattoo needles inserted into it in a circle pattern to outline a design and define the lining details, while a shader one colors the design and make shades with needles grouped in flat rows. A shader is usually a bit heavier than a liner as the wrap coils it contains may be larger to give the extra power for big shading areas. So it’s common to find a liner machine with 8 coils and a shader with 10 wrap coils. Those classical tattoo machines with 10 wrap coils for both liner and shader can be a good way to save your budget, but you should change the contact spring when you need to change the function.

But for mechanical point of view, tattoo machines can be divided into coil machines and rotary machines.

Most of the above liner and shader machines belong to coil ones, running on wrap coils, which are known for years to be pretty helpful for tattooing. Rotary tattoo machine runs on a wheel, or something like a pulley system that sets a motor for the machine. At the very beginning, they were thought to be less effective than coil ones, but after many years’ of improvement, they now are frequently in use by most professional tattoo artists. Some rotary machines have three functions all in one machine, suitable for body, eyebrow and lip.

Each type has its own highlights and drawbacks. Before you start to get your tattoo machine supplies, you should at least make a survey about that and talk about the tattoo supply store owner or some tattoo artists available in your reach for more advices.

What are the Various Types of Tattoo Machines on Which You Can Learn How to Tattoo?

What are the Various Types of Tattoo Machines on Which You Can Learn How to Tattoo?

Article by Chris Jenkins

Before you learn how to tattoo, you have to familiarize yourself with the tattoo machine. These machines are how modern tattoo artists create their skin art creations on their clients but they work using basically the same method that has been used to apply tattoos since time immemorial – a needle injecting ink into the dermis using an up-and-down motion. The machine, however, moves the needle at a rate of several hundred or thousand vibrations a minute and applies the tattoo ink at a depth of one millimeter in order to ensure a long-lasting tattoo that will last for years with only minor fading. The various tattoo machines are as follows:1. The liner machine makes the base for the tattoo, creating the basic outline as well as fine details such as line work. It uses a group of needles usually arranged in a circle.2. The shader machine colors in the outline as well as to add depth and shading. It uses an increased number of needles that are arranged in flat rows.3. The rotary machine can be used as either a liner or a shader, but utilizes a wheel to drive the needles rather than the coil that drives other machines.4. The Neuma is the most advanced tattoo machine on the market. It uses a compressed air system to run the needles and can automatically sterilize the machine, something that is not possible with earlier models. If you want to start learning how to tattoo, you can get a basic beginners kit so you can practice your skills. The kit costs a few hundred dollars and includes, apart from the machine, liner and shader needles, tube grips, tattoo ink, ink cups with holder and a tube of disinfectant cream. Practice working with the machine until you feel comfortable with it before you use it to apply a tattoo. Before working with a tattoo machine, always put on a pair of latex gloves to prevent infection. Here are the basic steps in operating a tattoo machine:1. Attach the tube grip to the front of the machine to serve as a guide for the needle. Make sure that the tube grip fits your hand snugly to prevent cramps while operating the machine.2. Insert a new needle and dip it into the ink, which will be sucked up into the machine using a tube system. The needle should be sterilized before you place it on the machine and should be screwed on as tightly as possible. Not using sterilized needles can give your subject and yourself hepatitis or staph infections.3. Test the foot pedal by pressing down on it. This pedal acts as an on/off switch for the machine. Exercise caution since the slightest pressure on the pedal will cause the machine to start.4. Hold the machine tightly while tattooing your subject. If you are working with the machine for the first time, be careful since the vibrations are surprisingly powerful and can cause the machine to vibrate right out of your hands. Before attempting to give someone a tattoo with a machine, you should have completed an apprenticeship with an experienced tattoo artist in a professional tattoo shop.

An Essential Part of Tattoo Machines- Tattoo Needles

An Essential Part of Tattoo Machines- Tattoo Needles

Article by Getbetterlife

You are familiar that tattoo machines have two main functions: lining and shading, which requires different setup of the tattoo machines. To distinguish a liner machine from a shader machine, you should check the tattoo needles, an essential part of tattoo machines. Tattoo needles vary in shape and size, which offers various choices for you to choose from to make your tattooing work more smooth and efficient. All the lining and shading work of tattoo machines can go on without the help of tattoo needles. If a set of tattoo machine is the body of tattooing, then the needles must be the soul. A tattoo needle for lining, working out the outline of a tattoo design, will be smaller than those for shading. You can use a single needle, but experience tattoo artists will suggest you to use a three or a five needle instead, as the lines looks better. But if you prefer bigger and bolder lines, just go with single needles. Shading work will be enacted within the outlines of the tattoo design. The size of the needles will be larger. They are chosen according to an individual artist’s personal preference whether he wants a flat needle or a round needle. Professional tattoo needles will usually come to you with a label telling the specific purpose they are intended for. RS is short for round shader, while RL is for round liner. We call them round as they are grouped together forming a cylindrical shape. FS and FL stands for flat shader and flat liner. Those needles are lined up in a single row, or in multiple rows stacked on the top of one another. Tattoo needles of all these types are set up by at least one single needle and nine or even more, no maximum limits. Now disposable tattoo needles are available in most stores online or offline in your local area. No matter disposable or not, they always require to be sterilized in order to keep the safety of the person to be given a tattoo and low down the risk of infection. Tattoo artists prefer to buy pre-packaged needles that come in pre-sterilized packages as the needles can be sterilized before use, but you are suggested to re-sterilize to ensure the low risk. As an essential part of tattoo machines, tattoo needles come in different sizes and vary in usage, being chosen for the comfortable experiences of a tattoo artist in a tattoo practice. Remember to read the instructions carefully before use.

Tattoo Machine

Tattoo Machine

Article by Anne

It was Thomas Edison who first made the very first <strong>tattoo machine</strong> which was called the stencil pen in the year 1800. After a few years, the stencil pen was reinvented and was modified by a now known tattoo artist in the state of New York and is known as the inventor of the modern<strong> machine</strong> by the name of Samuel O’Rilley. But even though O’Rilley was the one who modified and made this machine possible to use, his apprentice Charlie Wagner owns the entire patent of the machine.

There are different types of <strong>tattoo machine</strong> nowadays and we will learn them one by one.

1. Liner <strong>tattoo machine</strong> – This one is used to do the base of the artwork. This will start the outline of the entire tattoo and is also good to use to do intricate line details. If you will look at the tip of this<strong> machine</strong>, you will notice that it is composed of multiple needles arranged in a circular position.

2. Shader <strong>tattoo machine</strong> – Unlike the liner <strong>tattoo device</strong> where the needles are arranged in circle, the shader on the other hand is comprised of several needles that are arranged in flat rows. This one is used to put color and to add shadings to the artwork to make it more interesting.

3. Rotary <strong>tattoo machine</strong> – This <strong>tattoo machine</strong> is like a combination of the liner and the shader because it can do outlines, details and shadings.

4. Neuma <strong>tattoo machine</strong> – This is the most modern of all tattoo devices. Instead of wheel or coil to move the needles, it uses compressed air. This one can also automatically sterilize its needles which are not possible to happen with the first three types of <strong>machine.</strong>

So these are the different devices that you can use to start your hobby or business if you want to venture into the tattoo business in the future. This is one of the very promising business nowadays since most people whether male or female are interested in having themselves inked.

Just a suggestion, if you are just a beginner in the field, you may purchase a starter kit of a <strong>tattoo machine</strong> first which is available in most tattoo stores. From there you can work your way up to improve your skills and master the art of making tattoo. So if you are interested to learn the art of making tattoo, you must be familiar with the device used to make a tattoo.

Tattoo machines: a tool to exhibit craftsmanship and skill tattoo machines

Tattoo machines: a tool to exhibit craftsmanship and skill tattoo machines

Article by Anne

Tattooing has become a trendy and paying profession. Many people become tattoo artist and use <strong>tattoo machines</strong> of different types for different functions while tattooing is done on a part of somebody’s body. <strong>The machines</strong> are mechanical devices but they work on the same principle as the old unsophisticated needle printing. The essential principle is to inject the ink under the skin by up and down motion of the pin. <strong> </strong>This was done by hand in a slow and painful manner. <strong>Tattoo machines </strong>work fast and print the ink under the skin and form a uniform pattern to get the tattoo. Tattoos last a life time with a very little fading. Tattooing has become a very sophisticated affair and the tattoo artiste uses different <strong>tattoo machines</strong> for different purposes.

Getting tattooed was not considered acceptable by sophisticated people when tattooing was done by tribal women using crude pins and inks and making the whole exercise a painful one. The invention of <strong>tattoo machines </strong>and their use by so called tattooing experts have led to the complete reversal of opinion about it by the so called sophisticated people. Getting tattooed by a tattooing artist using<strong> tattoo machines</strong> has become fashionable among all classes of people. It is popular among both males and females.

Basically <strong>tattoo machines </strong>have been designed to carry out 2 different functions. They are the liner function and the shading function. The liner machine has the needles in a group arranged in a circle. The function of the liner machine is to make an outline and also workout the line work required. The shading machines have needles arranged flat rows, they color the outline add depth to it and do the shading. The <strong> machines </strong>which combine the work of lining and shading<strong> </strong>are rotary machines. Electric coils are used as the driving force for the needle to pierce the skin in all types of <strong>tattoo machines</strong><strong> </strong>but in the case of the rotary machine wheel replaces the coil as the driving force.

Tattooing was in the family only, now tattoo artist learn tattooing with the help of <strong>the machines </strong>and tattoo materials. Kits, essentially for the use of beginners are available in the market for practicing. The kit includes the tattoo machine and includes all items normally used by tattooing artiste, like needles, ink etc. The machine that comes with the kit is the same as the other <strong> machines </strong>in general use. Practicing is done on the practice skin that comes with beginner’s kit. Cautious use of the machine as well as the on/off pedal for power supply is essential for successful tattooing.
