Powerballs – Product Description:

The Powerball is the world’s most powerful hand gyroscope.  It can generate speeds of over 16,000 rpm and more than 40lbs of force using only the power of your own hand.  As you spin it faster and faster it gets harder and harder to hold and the LED lights get brighter and brighter.  It’s a great tool for any sports that require strength in the arms, hands and wrists.  Plus, you only need to use it for 5 or 10 minutes each day to see rapid improvements in your grip.  The onboard computer makes tracking your progress really easy and can act as a timer or record your maximum RPM.

Good Points of Dynaflex Platinum Powerball:

1) Addictiveness:- The main thing I like about the Powerball is that it’s so addictive.  Once you get it going you just don’t want to put it down.  You constantly want to beat your highest RPM.  If there’s a group of you it becomes even more addictive as competitiveness comes into play and everyone battles to get the highest RPM score.  I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had been so addicted or had so much fun when using a fitness gadget.

2) Effectiveness:- My wrists are 1 of my big weak spots when it comes to fitness.  A lot of the time when I am lifting in the gym my wrists give way before the muscle group I am working does.  This is pretty frustrating as sometimes I know I could have got out a few more reps out if it were not for my weak wrists.  However, after a few weeks using the Powerball I noticed that my wrists were letting me down a lot less and had got considerably stronger.  I didn’t develop Popeye sized forearms but in terms of improving grip strength the Powerball was really effective.

3) Portability:- The Powerball is about the size of a tennis ball so if you want to take it round to a friend’s house you simply pop it into your pocket and go.  You don’t need to worry about putting it in a special bag or container.

Bad Points of Dynaflex Platinum Powerball:

1) Difficult Technique:- When I first started using the Powerball I really struggled with the technique.  It probably took me a couple of weeks before I could keep the internal gyroscope spinning.  For me the technique was so difficult that I actually thought it was broken until my flatmate had a go and mastered it on his first attempt.  So whilst not everyone will struggle with the technique, some people will and for those that do struggle it is a very frustrating experience.  Once you get the hang of it the frustration quickly turns into addiction but in the first week or 2 be prepared for some difficulties (unless you are like my flatmate and master it on the first go).

2) Noisy:- Another negative when it comes to the Powerball is that it’s quite noisy.  As the gyroscope starts to spin faster it makes a kind of whirring noise.  It’s not uncomfortably loud but it’s certainly noticeable.  If you are trying to watch TV as you use the Powerball then you will have to crank the volume up louder than you normally would and if someone else is in the same room when you use it they are probably going to get irritated.  This isn’t a massive issue as you can take the Powerball to your bedroom, put some earphones in or just turn up the volume on the TV but it is something to be aware of.

Dynaflex Platinum Powerball – Summary:

Overall, the Powerball is a pretty sweet product.  It’s cheap, fun, effective and portable.  If you are looking to increase your grip strength it’s a very useful tool and even if you are not, it’s still a fun gadget you can use to compete with your friends.   Just be prepared for some tough times until you master the technique and make sure you don’t get it out in the living room when your girlfriend is trying to quietly read her favourite book.
